What's it all about?

Walyo Yerta is the result of a long grass roots process of convincing the council that city residents want and need a community garden - to connect to the land, have a nice place to grow food, share skills and knowledge, and meet other like-minded people to strengthen the bonds of community. The garden has successfully demonstrated that fences and security cameras are not necessary - a strong, well-connected community is what it takes to be safe and free from vandalism. The garden is used by young and old to grow herbs, veggies, flowers and a few fruit trees.
